RETAILERS ADDING ORGANICS DESPITE RECESSION
The recession hasn’t stopped retailers from expanding their premium organic ranges.
In France, Casino is looking to expand its Casino Bio organic range from 130 products to 170 this year. It will be introducing organic products to its frozen food section, with the addition of organic frozen beef steaks and will be launching the first AB certified mozzarella in France. The retailer says it organic lines have shown double-digit growth. Irma in Denmark has extended its entire range of organic products and now sells over 1,100 different items, up from about 900 organic products last year. Organic products now account for more to 20% of the retailer’s sales.
